What Is Yield Strength?

Yield Strength

Yield strength refers to the maximum stress that the material, or specifically steel, can withstand before it begins to permanently deform. When the test sample is subjected to forces beyond its yield strength, it will not return to its original shape once the force is removed or could even break in the process. This property is crucial to understand when determining what the material is suitable for in structural applications and is used by engineers to know how much load a steel component can bear safely without compromising its integrity.
